Three Salopian Grotesques
"All three designs bear the initials of JAH for James Arthur Hartshorne. The most extreme is the goblin sat on toadstools. The smoker spill vase, with droopy eyelid as if smoke was irritating it, is clearly a caricature - perhaps of Arty himself - for it is clear that this ardent Methodist had a sense of humour." from 'Benthall Pottery, Shropshire and its Salopian Art Pottery' by Roger S Edmundson (on display at Jackfield Tile Museum, 2007)
