Reference to Horton BUTLERs in 1437

Plea Rolls: "Trinity 15 Hen 6 m491 [i.e. 1437?]
Northampton: Philip Boteler sued for execution of a fine levied in 4 Edw 2 between Ralph le Boteller and Hawise his wife, and Thomas Paynel and Elizabeth his wife, respecting the manor of Hegham Gobyn, Co. Bedford and other lands specified. The defendant was Thomas Reynes, and the land claimed was in Horton."

The given pedigree is as follows, though this is at odds with another pedigree given elsewhere in the Plea Rolls:

Ralph le Botiller, seised 4 Ed 2 = Hawise
¦
John
¦
Ralph
¦
Philip
¦
Philip
¦
Philip Boteller, the plaintiff

The reference to Horton may just be a red herring. The manor referred to is nowadays known as Higham Gobion, which is 11 miles north of Luton. The problem is that the Horton is not specified in this extract: there is a Horton in Buckinghamshire, 22 miles SW of Higham Gobion, and another 26 miles NW in Northamptonshire, whereas "our" Horton in 140 miles away. It's worth looking into though. Elsewhere, the father of the plaintiff in this case is described as "of Wodehall" [=Woodhall, Lincs.? - 130 miles north of Higham Gobion], so the distances are not prohibitive.
