- This is the last Will and Testament of Richard Buck of Lincoln's Inn in the County of Middlesex;
First I give to my worthy friend Mrs. Newman the sum of thirty pounds for mourning;
To her son Mitchel Newman ten pounds for mourning;
To the Reverend Mr. Richard Keeble of Salisbury five pounds for mourning;
To Thomas Barnard of Cursitors Street Esquire twenty pounds for mourning;
And to his son Christopher Barnard ten pounds for mourning;
To Master John Sayer of Cursitors Street aforesaid ten pounds for mourning;
To my old friend Joseph Nicholas Smith, Esquire, thirty pounds for mourning;
To Mrs. Christian Buck and Mrs. Everill Buck the sum of five pounds each for mourning;
To my servant John [Grooby?] if he shall be living with me at the time of my decease the sum of fifty pounds over and above all such wages as shall be due to him from me at my decease as also such of my wearing apparel as my executor herein after named shall in his discretion think proper;
To my servant Elizabeth Cole if she shall be living with me at the time of my decease the sum of five pounds over and above all such wages as shall be due to her from me at my decease;
And I give to each of my said servants mourning;
And it is my Will and I do hereby desire to be buried at Colney Hatch where the rest of my family lie interred;
And all the rest, residue and remainder of all my Estates whatsoever and wheresoever and of what nature or kind soever I give and devise and bequeath the same to my most loving and affectionate uncle George Jarvis Tapps Esquire his heirs, executors and administrators, and I constitute and appoint him my said uncle sole Executor of this my last Will and Testament;
And hereby revoking all former and other Wills by me made I declare this only to be my last Will and Testament, in witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this twenty sixth day of February in the year of Our Lord one thousand seven hundred and sixty three [R. Buck]
31st August 1770, on which day appeared personally Thomas Barnard of Lincoln's Inn in the County of Middlesex Esquire and John Darby of the Parish of St. Clement Danes in the County of Middlesex Gentleman, and by virtue of their corporal oaths deposed that they knew and were well-acquainted with Richard Buck late of Lincoln's Inn aforesaid, but at Great Brickhill in the County of Buckinghamshire deceased, and have often seen him write and write and subscribe his name whereby they amd each of the became well acquainted with his manner and character of handwriting and subscription and having now carefully viewed and perused the paper writing hereunto annexed purporting to be the last Will and testament of the said deceased beginning thus "This is the last Will and Testament of Richard Buck of Lincoln's Inn in the County of Middlesex" ending thus "in witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this twenty sixth day of February in the year of Our Lord one thousand seven hundred and sixty three" and thus subscribed "R. Buck" do say that they verily and in their consciences believe the said paper writing beginning and ending and subscribed as aforesaid and the whole series thereof to be totally wrote and subscribed by and with the proper hand of him the said Richard Buck deceased, [Thomas Barnard, John Darby]. Same day the said Thomas Barnard Esquire and John Darby were sworn to the truth of this affidavit before me Francis Simpson Surrogate, present Mark Holman notary public.
This Will was proved at London the fourth day of September in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and seventy before the Worshipful Andrew Colnee Ducarel Doctor of Laws and Surrogate of the Right Worshipful George Hay Doctor of Laws Master Keeper or Commissary of the Prerogative Court of Canterbury lawfully constituted by the oath of George Jarvis Tapps Esquire the uncle of the deceased and sole executor named in the said Will to whom administration was granted of all and singular the goods, chattels and credits of the said deceased, being first sworn duly to administer.
