- Received the title of Comte d'Artois. Fled the Revolution and made two unsuccesful invasions of France. Returned to Paris with the Allies in 1814. In the second restoration of the French monarchy, he haeded the Ultras in the sruggle with the Constitutionalists. The death of his brother Louis XVIII in 1824 brought him to the throne. He and his eldest son abdicated 2 Aug 1830 in favour of his grandson, Comte de Chambord. But the people chose Louis-Phillipe as King of the French. {Chamber's Biographical Dictionary}
