  	No other George GADD appears to have been living in Bristol at this time, so these sightings in Directories might well refer to this individual. Guildhall Library: GB/NNAF/C111214 Records of London & Lancashire Insurance Co Ltd Agreement Books MS 21310, Vol. 1 1869-1882 Limited (and incomplete) details of the business of the Bristol branch are recorded: 28 Oct 1869 Mr JAMES to retire as Local Manager. Mr. ANDERSON to be Local Manager £150 fixed salary + 2.5% on gross direct premiums of branch + 10% p.a. on gross profits. 8 Jun 1872 Mr ANDERSON's salary increased to £250 from 1 Jul 1871. 23 Jul 1875 Mr PERKINS appointed Local Manager salary £20 per month + 5% commission on net profits. 12 May 1882 Letter from Wm B. HEATON, Local Manager. There is no mention of George GADD, but neither is there any mention of Wm HEATON's appointment. Yorkshireman HEATON had a son born in Northumberland in Q1 1876, and so had prseumably not arrived in Bristol by then. www.measuringworth.com suggests that Mr. PERKINS's annual salary equated in 2006 to £15k + commission using RPI, or £116k + commission compared to average earnings.

  		Ellbroad Street on Broadweir Market Day 1904 George GADD is standing outside his premises on the right of the picture. His son, George F GADD had probably moved out when he married in September 1903. People are emerging from the dwelling three doors down, occupied in 1911 by Henry J SKRINE and his family, probably when Henry worked at the Empire Theatre nearby. Martha GADD (George's grandmother) died in the house next to the shop in 1873. This photo appears in "Victorian and Edwardian Bristol" with an introduction by Reece Winstone, who notes that "the man in the doorway proved to be the father of two now elderly Bristolians who were delighted to see this photograph".
