Queen Victoria is said subsequently to have visited the Christies in Burra - John claimed to have royal blood and this is why he was allowed to marry Philadelphia Scott. Exactly what the Royal connection is is anybody's guess, but we have speculated that John's father may have been William Augustus Hanover, Duke of Cumberland and son of George II, responsible for the defeat of Bonnie Prince Charlie at Culloden in 1745.
