"On Saturday 15 February, a butcher’s wife Jane Withey was found stabbed to death in the St Paul’s district of Bristol. Her husband was questioned and claimed that she had fallen on a knife whilst drunk. Withey was tried at Bristol Assizes along with an Elizabeth Knutt, who was charged with harbouring him and being an accessory to the murder.
"After a three day trial, Knutt was sent to prison for five years; Withey was sentenced to death. Hanged by Berry."
