  	The THOMAS family of Fairford, Glos. were notable Baptists. A different John THOMAS b. 1757, son of a deacon of the Fairford Baptist Church, was among the first missionaries in India. Speculation that there is a familial link because this John's son, James, also went to India as a missionary. "A Baptist Bibliography" 1803-4 refers to a paper given by "John THOMAS of Buckridge Bank?", "Circular of the Midland, from Broseley". Buckeridge Bank is close to Bewdley.

  	NOT AT ALL SURE OF THIS PARENTAGE! John was said to have arrived in Broseley from Bewdley, and 1841 census indicates that he was born outside of Shropshire. Kidderminster is the next parish to Bewdley. These supposed parents had a child named Nathaniel, as did this John. John named his first son John, but his second son William.

  	The Midland Association held its Annual Meeting at Broseley on 22 & 23 May 1804 and John Thomas wrote the Circular Letter on the subject "A due attendance and proper behaviour in the House of God".

  	From "The Baptist Magazine": REV. JOHN THOMAS. Died on Thursday, the 1st of November, aged eighty-nine years, the Rev. John Thomas, father of the Rev. James Thomas, of the Baptist Mission House, Calcutta. This venerable servant of the Lord was for thirty- nine years the faithful pastor of the first Baptist church, Broseley, Salop, and the honoured instrument of winning many souls to the Saviour, of whom several are now labouring in the ministry of the gospel. The superior strength of divine grace over that of nature was strikingly evinced in that, whilst he was oblivious of even his own daughter, (who was his constant, tender, and affectionate attendant), he was at the same time fully alive to Him, whom, in nearly his last moments he designated, "The chiefest among ten thousand, and the altogether lovely."
