Settlement by Walter [Devereux], Earl of Essex, etc., of the manor of Monkton and all his other lands in co. Pembroke lately purchased Richard Vaughan, the manors of Oldhall and Bourchiers Hall in Tollesbury, the farms called Bakers and Swaynes, and all his lands in Tollesbury, Tolleshunt, Goldanger and Wivenho, co. Essex, and lands etc., in Hitchin, co Hertford, intrust in augmentation of the jointure Lettice, his wife, with remainder to Robert his son in tail, with further provisos. Dat. 14 June, 18 Eliz. Signed by the Earl, Henry Hastings, Earl of Huntingdon, Sir Francis Walsingham and others, trustees, with seals. In duplicate

Refers to Thomas BAKER, Yeoman of Tolleshunt Knights, "to grant his messuage lately built formerly called 'Bacons' and now 'Abbotes' with 2 closes of pasture and meadow..."
- 1592: Will of John BRETT of Tolleshunt Major, yeoman, refers to his tenement and lands called Bakers in Tolleshunt.
