  Notes	Mary Frances NEALE believed that she had Huguenot ancestry, probably through her FLEXNEY ancestors. It now seems likely that it was through the GODFREYs, GODFREY being an anglicisation of the French GODEFROI. GODFREYs are known to have been Huguenot refugees naturalised in Britain and/or Ireland in the reign of Charles II by Letters Patent. "The Godfrey male line in Bethnal Green may have immigrated to England from (northern?) France as Huguenot silk weavers." [From DNA web site, referring to descendants of James GODFREY b. abt. 1715, lived in London] Against this Huguenot theory is the presence in the Feet of Fines of Thomas GODFREY in East Hanney in 1393. It now (2011) seems more likely that Mary NEALE's Huguenot ancestry is through her WILLIAMSON glassmaker ancestors.
