| WILL of John Baker, Wake's Colne, labourer 1558 In the name of God, amen. In the year of our lord god 1558 and the 21st day of December[?] I John Baker of Colne Wake within the County of Essex, labourer, being sick of body and good and *** of remembrance do order and make this my last will and testament in manner and form following, that is to say first I bequeath my soul unto almighty god my maker and redeemer and my body to be buried in the church yard of Colne Wake aforesaid. First I give and bequeath unto Agnes Baker my wife three *** and half my pewter to be equally divided. Item I bequeath unto Agnes my wife my best[?] bed being a feather bed, my best *** and two of my best pillows. Item I bequeath unto Agnes my wife 16 pounds[?] in King's money to be paid unto her immediately after my decease. Item I bequeath unto Agnes my wife all such household as she does bring unto me shall it so pay one brass pooff[?!] two feather one *** and four *** of *** and basin, three candle sticks, one *** one table one form and two ***. Also I give unto Agnes my wife two bushels of rye and ten bushels of wheat to be delivered as she shall need it immediately after my decease. *** bushels of wheat to be delivered between Michaelmas and Christmas next coming after the date hereof. Also I give and bequeath unto Agnes my wife all my jugs and all my *** and three teapots. Item I give unto Ellen Lyng[?] my wife's daughter ?s. ?d to be paid within four years next after my decease. Item I give unto John Baker my eldest son my house and a croft of land containing by estimation an acre and a half called "Pytmas"[?] lying in Fordham upon this condition that is to say the said John my son to pay unto Agnes my wife ? a year during her life. Item I give and bequeath unto John my eldest son my great ? my best beer pot half my pewter and half my candlesticks. Also I give unto John my son half my *** to be equally divided. Item I give unto John my son ?s ?d to be paid within three years after my decease. Also I give unto John my unbound ruffle[?] my best *** a square of white cloth of two *** and the one half of the residue of my apparel apart my red coat to be equally divided. Item I give unto William my son my fawn coat and ?s ?d to be paid within one year after my decease. Item I give unto Alice Brown my daughter ?s ?d to be paid within two years after my decease. If the said Alice doth die before the money be paid I will that then it shall remain unto the children of the said Alice to be equally divided between them. Item I give unto Joan Carnar[?] ?s ?d to be paid within three years after my decease and if the said Joan doth die before the money be paid then I will it shall be equally divided between her childen. Item I give and bequeath unto Rose[?] my daughter ?s ?d to be paid unto her at her day of marriage. Item I give and bequeath unto Martin my son ?s ?d to be paid unto him at the age of 21 years. Item I give unto Joseph[?] my son ? after the decease of Agnes my wife 20s in ready money. Item I give unto Alice Wafam[?] ?s ?d in ready money to be paid within four years after my decease and if the said Alice doth die before the ?s ?d be paid then I will it shall be equally divided between her children. Item I give unto Robert Baker my godson ?s to be paid within one year after my decease. Item I give unto Alice Furnor[?] my goddaughter ?s. Item I give unto Thomas Baker the son of John Baker my son ?s. All the my debts paid my legacy fulfilled then I will then all my residue of my goods unbequeathed and not given I give wholly unto George my son whom I order and make my sole executor of this my last will and testament and John Oddy to be my ***. *** and he to same for his payment ?s. Item I give and bequeath unto George my son after my decease and Agnes my wife my house and land with appurtenances called "Wynters".
