| Probate | WILL of Thomas Baker, labourer, of Copford 1639 In the name of God, amen. I Thomas Baker of Copford in the County of Essex, labourer being sick and weak in body but of good and perfect remembrance thanks be unto Almighty God do make and ordain this my Last Will and Testament in manner and form following. First I give and bequeath my soul into the hands of Almighty God my *** but hoping to be saved by the only[?] merits of Jesus Christ my Redeemer and my body to be buried in the churchyard of Copford. Item: I give and bequeath unto my son William Baker this my dwelling house called Thurgoves with all the land belonging thereunto after the decease of my wife Katherine Baker unto him and his heirs for ever and if it happen he die without issue I give unto Mary my daughter and to her heirs for ever and if it happen both of them shall die without issue I give and bequeath the same house and land unto John Miller of Copford and to his heirs for ever. Item: I give unto Mary my daughter my little house being part of Thurgoves abutting upon the east, joining to my house that I dwell in after the decease of my wife to her and her heirs for ever and if it happen that the said Mary my daughter die without issue I give the same house to William my son and if they happen both to die without issue I give the same unto John Miller of Copford and to his heirs for ever. Item: I give unto Mary my daughter the flock bed that I now lie on with the bedstead, blankets coverlet and one pair of sheets with all thereunto belonging. All the rest of my goods unbequeathed I give unto Katherine my wife whom I make and appoint my lawful Executrix of this my last Will and Testament. In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal dated the twentieth day of March in the fourteenth year of Our Sovereign Lord King Charles and in the year of our Lord 1638 X Thomas Baker in the presence of William Hurrell[?], Thomas Ambler. | |
