- Charles Hemus married Gertrude Evangeline Edger, who was the sister of Kate Edger (the first woman university graduate in New Zealand) and a daughter of Rev. Samuel Edger, an Albertland minister. The Edger family had travelled on MATILDA WATTENBACH in 1862, and lived at Port Albert about 10 years before moving to Auckland during the 1870's and 1880's. He and his business partner were Vice-Regal Photographers for some years.
